Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has assured Northerners that the presidency will return to the region in 2031 after President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during a political gathering, Bago stressed that the North remains a critical bloc in Nigeria’s power structure and will reclaim the top seat once Tinubu completes his tenure. He urged Northerners to remain united and patient, adding that attempts to sow division in the region would not succeed.

The governor also dismissed fears of marginalisation, insisting that the current administration values fairness and national balance. His remarks, however, have sparked fresh debates across the political landscape, with some analysts warning that early zoning discussions could heighten political tension ahead of the 2027 elections.

While supporters welcomed his assurance as a sign of political stability, critics argued that the focus should remain on governance and economic reforms rather than power rotation.
