The Niger Delta Movement for Coalition (NDMC) led by the national chairman Hon. Ezekiel Daniel Perela has strongly condemned Nafi’u Bala’s actions, accusing him of being used by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the presidency to cause a crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

However, Bala’s claim to the chairmanship of the ADC has sparked controversy, particularly given his resignation letter dated May 17, 2025, where he stepped down as Deputy National Chairman.

It was learnt that the Niger Delta Movement For Coalition, NDMC was a formidable grassroots political group comprising dedicated PDP members who refused to defect alongside their governors to the APC, and disenchanted APC members dissatisfied with the administration of president Bola Tinubu. The NDMC movement spams all south south states and was committed to unity, peace, progress and positive change for a better Nigeria.

The NDMC led by the chairman/coordinator Hon.Ezekiel Daniel described the allegations made by Nafi’u Bala as a manipulation orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to destabilize the African Democratic Congress (ADC). “As a group we believe that the APC is trying to undermine the ADC’s efforts to save Nigeria from what we perceive as dictatorial tendencies”.

Ezekiel stated that APC was using various tactics to weaken the ADC and maintain its grip on power. “By using Bala to cause crisis and such attitudes will be resisted by all means and as a coalition party, the ADC has been vocal about its commitment to democratic principles and good governance”.

According to him, the party’s efforts to challenge the APC’s dominance had been met with resistance, and the NDMC’s statement highlights the challenges that opposition parties face in Nigeria.

The national Chairman of the Niger Delta Movement for Coalition and the NDMC reaffirmed support for the ADC and hereby raised question about the state of democracy in Nigeria. The NDMC believed that every action caused by the APC could undermine the country’s democratic institutions and limit the ability of opposition parties to hold the government accountable. The NDMC’s statement served as a reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in governance.

The NDMC believed Bala’s actions were part of a larger plot to destabilise the ADC, citing his sudden declaration as national chairman just one day after the party’s unveiling of its National Executive Committee. This move had raised questions about Bala’s motives and the legitimacy of his claim.

The ADC had rejected Bala’s claim, stating that his resignation from the National Working Committee means he can no longer declare himself chairman. Amb. Tammy Lucky Opone, the party’s National Director of Media and Publicity, emphasised that Bala’s resignation letter clearly showed he’s no longer part of the party’s leadership.

NDMC’s Concerns

The NDMC is concerned about the potential consequences of Bala’s actions, particularly being manipulated by external forces. The movement fears that this could lead to further instability within the party and undermine its chances of success in future elections.

The NDMC hereby called on the ADC leadership to take swift action to address the situation and prevent further crisis. The movement also urges party members to remain vigilant and reject any attempts to undermine the party’s leadership and integrity.

Other ADC leaders, including Hon. Ismail Haruna, Director General of ADC National Media Frontiers, has also condemned Bala’s actions. Haruna alleged that Bala’s actions are part of a broader attempt by external forces, specifically the APC, to destabilize the ADC and undermine Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.

The Niger Delta Movement for Coalition (NDMC) seriously condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly attempting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. This criticism is not new, as similar concerns have been raised by other groups and individuals in the past. The NDMC’s statement echoes the sentiments of many Nigerians who value democracy and want to see a robust opposition in the country.

Ralph Nwosu, the former national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has also spoken out against the APC’s alleged efforts to undermine opposition parties. Nwosu claimed that he was offered ministerial appointments in exchange for dropping plans to form an opposition coalition platform. He emphasized that Nigeria cannot become a one-party state, given the country’s history and the struggles that led to the exit of military governance.

The idea of a one-party state raises concerns about the health of Nigeria’s democracy. A robust opposition is essential for holding the government accountable and ensuring that power is not concentrated in the hands of a single party. The APC’s alleged attempts to undermine opposition parties could have far-reaching consequences for the country’s democratic institutions.
