A group under the umbrella of the Niger Delta Movement for Coalition (NDMC) led by its chairman Hon. Ezekiel Perela Daniel strongly condemned what it described as a brazen attack on the coalition meeting in Kaduna, where government-sponsored thugs brutally assaulted participants, injuring several members and damaging property.

The group accused the ruling party, APC, and its government of orchestrating such attacks against the coalition movement in the country.

The NDMC faulted the role of the police during the ugly incident, while raising serious concerns about the role of the police in protecting citizens and upholding the rule of law in the country.

The group emphasised that It was unconscionable that the police failed to prevent the attack or protect the participants, as they demanded a thorough investigation into this incident.

In a statement, Ezekiel said, “This reprehensible act is a clear manifestation of the government’s intolerance for dissenting voices and its willingness to use violence to suppress opposition”

He went further, “The NDMC finds it appalling that the attack occurred despite the presence of police officers at the scene. This raises serious questions about the role of the police in protecting citizens and upholding the rule of law. It is unconscionable that the police failed to prevent the attack or protect the participants, and we demand a thorough investigation into this incident.

“The NDMC believes that the attack was orchestrated by government officials who are determined to silence opposition voices and maintain their grip on power. This is a disturbing trend that undermines the principles of democracy and freedom of association. We call on the government to respect the rights of citizens to assemble and express their views without fear of violence or intimidation.

“The NDMC commends the bravery and resilience of the coalition members who were attacked, and we stand in solidarity with them in their quest for a better Nigeria. We also appreciate the efforts of human rights activists and organizations that are working tirelessly to promote democracy and good governance in our country.

“The NDMC demands that the government take immediate action to investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. We also call on the police to explain their role in this incident and to take concrete steps to prevent similar attacks in the future. The people of Nigeria deserve to live in a society where their rights are respected and protected.

“In conclusion, the NDMC reiterates its commitment to promoting democracy, good governance, and human rights in Nigeria. We will continue to speak out against injustice and oppression, and we will work tirelessly to build a better future for our country. We stand with the coalition members who were attacked, and we will not be silenced by the forces of oppression”.
