In the years 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, there were strike actions by University lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. This may be linked to the fact that the appointed Minister of Education by the outgoing president Muhammadu Buhari, didn’t know anything about the educational sector.

A few days before the Inauguration of the president-elect, and the change of Government of President Muhammadu Buhari, his education minister, Adamu Adamu confessed that he didn’t know anything about the educational sector.

Adamu stated that he knew nothing about the educational sector when the outgoing president appointed him to the position.

Recall, Adamu Adamu was appointed to the position in the year 2015.

The minister, speaking at the valedictory Service in Abuja, Adamu thanked the outgoing president for trusting him with such a responsibility that he was not prepared for.

It could be recalled that Nigerian Universities went on almost a year strike due to failed educational sector, which left students missing a year of the school calendar.

Adamu maintained in his statement that he didn’t know anything about education except superficially.

He stated that since he didn’t know anything about the educational sector, he called on some people to assist him with education policy documents since he was a novice.

Adamu asserted that he shared his idea with the people he called and they assisted him greatly.

However, he stated that he remained forever grateful to the outgoing president, Muhammadu Buhari for trusting him with such responsibility.
