Resign Now, Niger Delta Women Issues Akpabio One Month Ultimatum

Following the statement of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, the Women leaders across the Niger Delta region on Monday, August 21, issued a one-month ultimatum to him to resign from the hallowed chamber over a controversial holiday enjoyment utterance.

The angry women vowed to stage over one million Niger Delta Women to a massive protest at the national assembly on September 26, if he failed to re-sign.

This is coming weeks after the new senate president announced to the house that money was sent to their accounts for them to enjoy, while millions of Nigerians are suffering.

“To enable us to enjoy our holidays, a token had been forwarded to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly,” Akpabio stated.

However, when he noticed he was on a live broadcast, he immediately withdrew the statement.

“I withdraw that statement, to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate President had sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey.” Godswill Akpabio added.

The comment generated mixed reactions among Nigerians, with many berating the senators for being insensitive at a time Nigerians are wagging their teeth due to subsidy removal hardship by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, Niger Delta Women has called for his resignation with immediate effect.

“We call on Senator Godswill Akpabio to honourably resign his position as President of the Senate of the federal republic of Nigeria, ” the statement reads.

” We urge the senators to stand firm with the masses and vote Akpabio out should he not agree to the oath of honoured, ” he added
