Tensions are running high in Rivers State as allegations emerge of political manipulation and power play involving former Governor Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and current Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The Ijaw Women Rights’ Protection Forum has accused the FCT minister Nyesom Wike of orchestrating a deliberate campaign to destabilize Rivers State and trap Governor Fubara, citing the recent impeachment move announced by the Rivers State House of Assembly as a prime example.

The statement reads, “The actions of Wike are a clear attempt to undermine the authority of Governor Fubara and manipulate the democratic institutions of Rivers State for personal gain,” said the concerned group.

The move has sparked outrage among Rivers State residents, who warn against the abuse of legislative power and the use of democratic institutions as tools for personal battles.

The president of the group Comrade Hilda Amogha said, “Rivers State belongs to its people, not to any individual or group,” the statement continued. “We will not stand idly by while our democratic institutions are hijacked and used for personal agendas.”

The controversy has also raised concerns about the potential consequences for future leaders from Rivers State, with some warning that Wike’s actions could set a dangerous precedent.

“If Wike can fight a sitting governor today, he can equally fight your sons tomorrow when they become governors,” the statement cautioned. “What goes around comes around.”

“Wike is a political manipulator whose actions are deliberately designed to trap Governor Siminalayi Fubara and destabilize Rivers State. This constant propaganda and power play must stop. Rivers State does not belong to one man or his personal interests; it belongs to the people.

“The impeachment move against Governor Fubara, announced by the Rivers State House of Assembly through the Majority Leader, raises serious concerns about political interference and the abuse of legislative power. Rivers people should not accept the use of democratic institutions as weapons for personal battles.
Power belongs to the people, and no individual is above the collective will of Rivers State.

“Those using themselves as tools to fight Governor Fubara should apply wisdom in all they do. If Wike can fight a sitting governor today, he can equally fight your sons tomorrow when they become governors. What goes around comes around”.
