Senator Ben Murray-Bruce Dumps PDP, Joins APC, Hails Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

By Micheal Chukwuebuka
Former Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and economic reforms.
In a statement on Wednesday, Murray-Bruce said his decision was driven by conviction rather than political expediency, commending President Tinubu for his economic discipline, reformist agenda, and infrastructural expansion.
“I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause, he is driven by results. And today, I can boldly say to you that he is on the right track,” he said.
The former lawmaker praised Tinubu’s understanding of finance and his approach to the economy, describing him as the first Nigerian president to treat the nation’s economy as a “living organism” requiring discipline and deregulation.
“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a President who truly understands finance, who sees the economy not as a political slogan, but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe,” he said.
According to Murray-Bruce, the painful reforms currently being implemented by the Tinubu administration are essential foundations for future prosperity. He highlighted improvements in security, the stability of the naira, and renewed investor confidence as signs of a recovering economy.
“Insecurity is being quietly and systematically dismantled. The Central Bank, now professionally steered, is stabilising the economy, rebuilding confidence, and restoring the dignity of the naira,” he stated.
He also lauded the President’s achievements in infrastructure and foreign policy, noting visible progress in roads, ports, airports, and housing development across the country.
“Our foreign policy is again respected. Our fuel supply is deregulated. We will never again live through the humiliation of fuel scarcity. The numbers are beginning to speak, investments are returning, and the world is watching Nigeria rise again,” Murray-Bruce added.
Explaining his defection, the entrepreneur and media mogul said he joined the APC not for political gain but for the sake of Nigeria’s progress.
“That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress. Because I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of,” he declared.
Murray-Bruce concluded with optimism, predicting “phenomenal growth” for Nigeria under Tinubu’s full two-term leadership.
“Mark my words: in the full term of eight years, Nigeria will witness phenomenal growth. I choose to stand with that vision. I choose to stand with reform. I choose to stand with the future,” he said.
