Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the Igbo as major stakeholders in the Nigerian project, praising their drive, enterprise and widespread presence across the country.

Speaking on national unity and economic growth, Shettima noted the influential role the Igbo play nationwide. “Abuja is owned by the Igbo. Half of the population of Lagos is likely made up of the Igbo. There is hardly any place in this country where you won’t find an Igbo manufacturer. If you don’t see one, run away from that place. If you don’t see a Hausa person, run away from that place,” he said, stressing that both groups naturally gravitate towards opportunity.

The Vice President called on leaders across all regions to invest in their home communities, particularly in the South-East, while also supporting development across the country. He said Nigeria stood on the threshold of remarkable progress if unity and shared prosperity remained the focus.

Quoting a former President of Mauritius, Shettima reminded his audience that “one out of every four black men is a Nigerian.” He projected that by 2050, Nigeria is set to become the world’s third most populous nation with an estimated 440 million people, and could become the most populous country globally by the end of the century.

Expressing optimism about the nation’s future, he declared: “I am proud to call myself Nigerian.”
