Dramatic body camera footage has captured the moment two shoplifting suspects attempted to shoot security operatives at a Walmart store in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday, December 18.

Shane Newman, 21, and Katerina Jeffrey were detained by police on suspicion of shoplifting and taken to a store security room for questioning.

The footage shows Newman suddenly pulling out a firearm and attempting to shoot a police officer at point-blank range.

The gun clicked but did not fire, and a Walmart security employee restrained Newman as the officer drew his weapon.

Newman allegedly attempted to fire the gun a second time, but it clicked again, failing to discharge.

The officer and security employee overpowered Newman and restrained him until additional officers arrived. Both suspects were taken into custody.

The incident has been reported to the authorities, and an investigation is ongoing.
