Surgeon Sacked over Unauthorized Kidney Removal at Ekiti University Hospital

The Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) has dismissed a surgeon for removing a patient’s kidney without consent.
The state’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, confirmed the dismissal.
The incident came to light when kidney transplant recipient Joshua Afolayan reported that his organ had been taken without his knowledge.
EKSUTH acted swiftly, terminating the surgeon’s employment and launching an investigation into the breach of medical ethics.
The case has sparked concerns about patient safety and surgical consent, prompting calls for stricter oversight in healthcare institutions.
