Panic has gripped residents of Amakohia-Ubi in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State after suspected armed herders launched a violent attack on the community. The invasion, which occurred late on Thursday night, left the leader of the local vigilante group dead, while several other villagers are reported missing.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the village in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety. The vigilante leader, who had been at the forefront of community security efforts, was shot and killed during the onslaught. His death has heightened fear among locals, many of whom are now reluctant to return to their homes.

Community sources disclosed that the incident has been reported to security agencies, though no official statement has yet been released by the Imo State Police Command. Meanwhile, youths of the area have vowed not to be intimidated, urging government authorities to step up protection for rural communities increasingly facing such violent invasions.
