TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited, a private security firm owned by High Chief (Dr.) Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has commenced the construction of a storey building for the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) at the correctional facility. This project demonstrates the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its dedication to the educational development and reformation of prison inmates.

The NOUN building, which will have eight classrooms, will be equipped with modern educational facilities, including computers. This initiative will undoubtedly enhance the educational opportunities available to the inmates.

This is a significant boost to the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates, the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCS,Okere-Warri. This is a notable strides in providing educational opportunities, recreational activities, and healthcare services. This was evident during a recent courtesy visit by Comrade Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, a human rights activist and former Awaiting Trial Inmate of the facility.

The centre has been commended for its approval as a WAEC/NECO examination centre, including Junior Secondary School/Cognitive Placement Certificate Examinations. This initiative aligns with Aghogho’s values of promoting rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.

Several religious organizations, including the Sacred Heart Cathedral and the entire Warri Diocese of the Catholic Church, Warri, Prisons Fellowship (Nigeria), Christ Embassy, and the Redeemed Christian Church of God, have been actively involved in the reformation of inmates through spiritual guidance and counseling.

The correctional centre has also prioritized the health and well-being of inmates, with significant improvements made to its healthcare facilities. Recently, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) donated essential medical supplies, including drugs, mattresses, and mats, to the facility. The facility has an isolated centre for inmates with tuberculosis and HIV, who have also benefited from the NDDC’s donation of drugs and other medical supplies.

Overall, the Federal Correctional Centre, Okere-Warri, has made notable strides in promoting the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through various initiatives. Aghogho has urged other corporate organizations and individuals to emulate TANTITA Security Services’ example by supporting the educational and rehabilitative initiatives of the correctional centre.
