Terrorists Abduct Four Farmers in Kwara a Day After Eruku Church Attack
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
Terrorists have launched another assault in Kwara State, abducting four rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area, just a day after an attack on a church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA.
According to sources cited by SaharaReporters, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening while the victims were harvesting rice. The attackers were said to have arrived unexpectedly, surrounded the farmers and forced them into the bush before taking them to an unknown location. Residents reported that the gunmen operated unchallenged for several minutes.
The latest abduction has heightened fear across farming communities in Edu LGA, with several settlements reportedly deserted as farmers avoid their fields despite the peak harvest season.
The attack follows a deadly assault on a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku on Tuesday evening, during which gunmen opened fire during a church meeting, killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor. The attackers were said to have escaped through bush paths linking Eruku to neighbouring villages, leaving residents in fear.
The Kwara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on either incident. The attacks underscore the worsening security situation in the state, particularly affecting vulnerable rural communities during a critical agricultural period.
