In a move that has reshaped the political landscape in Taraba State, three lawmakers from the State House of Assembly have officially joined the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The announcement was made on Monday during a legislative session as the Speaker, John Kizito Bonzena, formally read their letters of defection.

The defectors are:
Umar Adamu Abdullahi, who represented Jalingo I Constituency, formerly of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP);
Zakaria Sanusi, from Ibi Constituency, also a former NNPP member; and
Anas Shaibu, representing Karim II Constituency, previously with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Each lawmaker explained that their decision to switch parties followed extensive consultations with their constituents, and was influenced by the progressive leadership and developmental agenda spearheaded by Governor Agbu Kefas. They emphasized that joining the PDP would better enable them to serve their communities and enhance legislative effectiveness.

Responding to the defection, the Speaker extended a warm welcome on behalf of the House, promising full support and underscoring the importance of unity and cooperation in fostering meaningful progress for the state.
