Tinubu Signs Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) Bill Into Law, Adopts Manual, Electronic Transmission
By Joseph Bienbo, Warri
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) Bill into law, a significant step towards electoral reform ahead of the 2027 general elections. The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The new law introduced manual and electronic transmission of election results from polling units to INEC’s Results Viewing (IREV) portal. This follows months of deliberations and reviews.
The amendment addresses concerns about electoral credibility, with stakeholders advocating for measures to reduce manipulation and boost public confidence. The 2027 general elections are scheduled for February 20 (Presidential and National Assembly polls) and March 6 (Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections).
