Tinubu to Present New INEC Chairman Nominee to Council of State Today

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to present his nominee for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the National Council of State today for consideration.

The development comes as the tenure of the current INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, draws to a close. The presentation before the Council, which includes former presidents, state governors, and key government officials, is a crucial step before the official appointment is confirmed.

Sources within the Presidency revealed that the President’s choice is expected to reflect his commitment to credible electoral reforms and strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, which will hold at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, is also expected to review other national issues, including security and the economy.
