Tragedy in Kuje Prison as Inmate Dies in Same Clinic Housing Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer
By Diafa Doubra,
An awaiting-trial inmate at the Kuje Correctional Centre, identified as Dung Bulus Pam, has reportedly died overnight under unclear circumstances. The incident occurred in the same prison clinic where Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, was also being treated.
According to reports, Pam’s death has raised concerns among other inmates and human rights advocates, who are calling for an independent investigation into the circumstances leading to his sudden passing. Sources within the facility allege that the inmate had been complaining of poor health for days but did not receive timely medical attention.
The development comes amid growing scrutiny of conditions in Nigerian correctional centres, especially Kuje Prison, which has been at the centre of several controversies involving overcrowding, poor medical facilities, and alleged mistreatment of detainees.
Human rights groups have urged the Federal Government and the Nigerian Correctional Service to ensure transparency in the investigation and improve welfare standards for inmates.
