Tributes As Deacon Kingsley Otuaro Honours Late Mother With Grand Funeral Rites in Delta

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Delta State, Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, on Friday 7th March 2025 honoured the life and legacy of his late mother , Mrs Pinapina Otuaro with a magnificent funeral ceremony held in Oporoza, the administrative headquarters of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area.
The event, which took place over the weekend, brought together governors, past and present, top government functionaries both at the state and federal levels, family, friends, and others dignaries from various sectors, highlighting the profound impact his mother had on him, her community, Gbaramatu kingdom and loved ones. Deacon Otuaro, visibly emotional yet composed, expressed his gratitude to those who gathered to celebrate the life of a woman he described as a beacon of strength, love, and resilience.
The ceremony was steeped in rich cultural traditions and rites that reflect the deep-rooted heritage of the Gbaramatu Kingdom. Royal father’s, traditional chief gathered, honoring the deceased’s contributions to the family and Gbaramatu kingdom. Guests were treated to a display of vibrant cultural performances, traditional music, and elaborate feasting, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the Ijaw People.
In his heartfelt address, Otuaro recounted cherished memories of his mother and her unwavering support throughout his life. He urged attendees to reflect on the values she instilled in her children, emphasising the importance of a good mother, as her prayers sustained and maketh a way for her children..
“I stand before you today not just as a son mourning the loss of his mother, but as a man grateful for the values she imparted to me,” he said. “Let her legacy be a reminder of the strength we find in family, community and kingdom. We must carry her spirit forward in all that we do.”
The event served as a reminder of the enduring bonds that tie families together and the strength found in honoring one’s heritage. As the community gathered to pay their final respects, it was clear that Deacon Otuaro’s mother, Mrs Pinapina Otuaro would be remembered not only for her role within her family but also for her contributions to the larger Gbaramatu community.
As the sun set over Oporoza, the rich cultural heritage of the Kingdom resonated through the hymns and tributes that filled the air, creating a fitting farewell for a beloved mother and matriarch.
