The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Kano State Command has arrested two women, Maryam Ali, 19, and Hauwa Musa, 20, for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano.

The suspects were apprehended on December 21, 2025, during routine security checks while trying to gain access to the custodial centre.

According to the NCoS spokesperson, Mr Musbahu Lawan, the women were found in possession of suspected illicit drugs intended for inmates.

Lawan stated that the act constitutes a serious violation of NCoS regulations and is a criminal offence under Nigerian law.

The suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

The NCoS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict security and zero tolerance for illegal activities in and around custodial centres. Lawan urged members of the public to comply with rules governing prison visits, warning that breaches would be dealt with accordingly.
