A U.S. lawmaker has called on the Nigerian government to strengthen its partnership with the United States in protecting Christian communities facing attacks across the country. The lawmaker emphasized that President Donald Trump is “very serious” about ensuring support for Nigeria in addressing religious violence.

Speaking during a congressional briefing, the lawmaker expressed concern over the rising incidents of violence against Christians in Nigeria, urging authorities to take decisive action to safeguard vulnerable communities. “Nigeria needs to cooperate closely with America to tackle these threats,” the lawmaker stated, highlighting the strategic importance of joint efforts in security and intelligence sharing.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions in several regions of Nigeria, where attacks on churches and Christian populations have been increasingly reported. Analysts suggest that U.S. involvement could include advisory support, humanitarian assistance, and strategic partnerships aimed at curbing religiously motivated violence.

While the call for collaboration has been welcomed by some human rights groups, critics argue that Nigeria must also address internal governance and security lapses to ensure lasting protection for all citizens, regardless of faith.
