UK court releases Beatrice, denies Ekweremadu’s bail
A London court has ordered the release of Beatrice, wife of a former Nigeria Deputy Senate President from detention on Monday, while her husband Ike Ekweremadu was denied bail.
The Common Serjeant of London, Judge Richard stated: “The position is that I have granted bail to Beatrice subject to some fairly stringent conditions but I have refused bail to Ike.”
It would be recalled that Ike Ekweremadu and his wife were apprehended and detained by the Metropolitan Police, London, over an alleged conspiracy on organ harvesting of one David Ukpo Swami.
It was alleged that Ekweremadus conspired to traffic a homeless man into the UK to harvest his kidney for their daughter.
The UK’s Daily Mail explained that Beatrice was charged with arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to organ harvesting, between August 1 last year and May 5, under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
While Ekweremadu was slammed with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to harvest organs for his sick daughter.
