UK Freezes Over 100 Bank Accounts Linked to MFM Over Financial Mismanagement Allegations

By Diafa Doubra,
The United Kingdom government has frozen more than 100 bank accounts belonging to the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) International, following allegations of financial irregularities and poor governance practices within the church’s UK branch.
According to Reporter, the UK Charity Commission launched an investigation after discovering that MFM operated over a hundred separate bank accounts without adequate oversight. The accounts, controlled by individual branches, were allegedly used in ways that violated the country’s charity financial regulations.
The commission noted that the church’s UK arm, which has expanded to over 90 branches, failed to maintain proper financial controls and accountability structures. Official records show that the charity reported an income of about £2.71 million and expenditure of £2.19 million in 2023 — figures now under scrutiny.
The regulatory body has since imposed an interim freezing order on the accounts while further investigations continue into possible misuse of funds. It also warned that MFM could face sanctions if found guilty of breaching the Charity Act.
Neither the UK leadership of MFM nor the parent church in Nigeria has issued an official response to the allegations.
