The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has prohibited the unauthorised use of its campus, including hostels and other facilities, for video production by skitmakers, filmmakers, and content creators.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 28 October, and signed by the institution’s Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the university expressed concern over the increasing trend of individuals filming skits, movies, and other content on campus without official approval.

According to the statement, the move is intended to protect the academic environment and preserve the university’s image from possible misrepresentation in unregulated productions.

“The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pops, etc.) and cinematographic activities without appropriate authorisation,” the statement read.

The university further noted that it has established procedures governing the recording of videos or other content on campus to ensure safety, decorum, and the integrity of its academic and residential spaces.

It directed that all individuals—whether students, staff, or external collaborators—must obtain formal approval from the Communications Unit before carrying out any filming activities on university grounds.

“Members of the University community and the general public are therefore advised to comply strictly with this directive in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility,” the statement added.
