Wabara Accuses APC of Plotting One-Party State Amid Rising Defections

By Diafa Doubra,
Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state through orchestrated waves of political defections.
Wabara, who spoke in Abuja while addressing party stakeholders, expressed concern over the recent mass defection of opposition politicians to the APC, describing it as a calculated effort to weaken democratic pluralism in the country. He noted that such political maneuvers pose a grave danger to Nigeria’s democracy and could stifle meaningful opposition — a critical element of governance in any democratic system.
The PDP chieftain urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and resist any attempt to undermine the nation’s multiparty structure. He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other democratic institutions to ensure that political activities are guided by fairness, transparency, and respect for constitutional values.
According to Wabara, the PDP remains committed to rebuilding its internal structures and presenting a strong alternative capable of restoring hope and balance to Nigeria’s political landscape.
