The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), bringing relief and excitement to thousands of Nigerian students and their families. According to WAEC’s Head of Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, over 1.7 million candidates sat for the exam, with a significant improvement in overall performance compared to previous years.

Statistics show that over 75% of candidates obtained credits in five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language a key benchmark for university admission in Nigeria. This marks a notable increase from the 2024 results, which recorded a 68% success rate in the same category.

Dr. Dangut attributed the improvement to enhanced school preparation, stricter exam monitoring, and the dedication of students and educators alike. However, he also noted that about 8% of the results were withheld due to suspected cases of examination malpractice, which are currently under investigation.

Reactions have poured in across social media, with students sharing emotional videos of result checking moments, while education experts are calling for continued reforms to sustain this positive trend. Parents and school administrators have praised WAEC for its transparency and prompt release of the results.

As universities prepare for the next admission cycle, the latest WASSCE performance is seen as a hopeful sign for the future of Nigeria’s secondary education system.
