‘We’re On It, Give us Two Weeks’ — Power Minister Begs Nigerians over Blackout

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologized to citizens over the prolonged electricity outages that have disrupted homes, businesses, and industries nationwide.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Adelabu admitted the situation has worsened living conditions, especially amid the intense dry-season heat.

“I want to apologise to Nigerians, officially now, coming from me as the Minister of Power, for this temporary issue that is leading to hardship being experienced, especially during this dry season, where there is so much heat everywhere,” he said.

The minister explained that the crisis stems from factors largely beyond immediate control, including gas supply disruptions and infrastructure challenges. However, he reassured Nigerians that efforts are underway to stabilise power supply.

“I can tell you, with the committee that we have set up, and commitments from gas suppliers, and the timeline for repair of the gas pipelines, two weeks from now, we should start seeing improvements in supply. Two weeks,” Adelabu said.

Facilities linked to Seplat Energy are also expected to resume operations, boosting gas supply to power plants.

Adelabu expressed optimism that the current measures will ease the situation and improve electricity supply in the coming weeks.
