Fire officials in Seabrook, Texas, United States, say a 19-year-old woman was dramatically rescued on Friday night after her vehicle plunged into Clear Creek Channel at the Shipyard Marina.

According to the Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department, the woman accidentally drove into the water, and her vehicle quickly became submerged, with only a small portion visible above the surface.

Fire Chief Nathan Douglas said residents of the Seabrook Shipyard, many of whom live on boats, immediately jumped in to help before fire crews arrived. However, he credited the successful rescue to one of his assistant chiefs.

“He went straight into action, putting on life-saving gear — a life vest and throw ropes — and entered the water to reach her,” Douglas explained. “It was an incredible rescue that truly saved her life.”

Chief Douglas praised all those involved, including the residents, firefighters, and the dispatch centre, for their swift and coordinated response.
