By Diafa Doubra,
The Society for the Welfare of Unemployed Youths of Nigeria (SWUYN) has applauded the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, for keeping his pledge to empower unemployed youths through the Ministry’s ongoing “Unskilling and Empowerment Training” in Bayelsa State.
The programme, which runs from September 23 to 26 at Tamara Hotel, Yenagoa, brings together selected youths from across the state for hands-on training in shoemaking, bag production, and catering services. Participants are also being provided with starter packs, accommodation, meals, dinner, and transportation allowances to ensure full participation throughout the four-day event.
During accreditation, attendees received branded training kits, including caps, T-shirts, pens, and jointers inscribed with the programme’s theme. According to SWUYN, the warm reception and comprehensive arrangements reflect the Ministry’s genuine commitment to equipping Nigerian youths with practical skills for self-reliance.
Speaking at the opening, SWUYN’s National President, Comr. Preye V. Tambou, described the initiative as a turning point for unemployed youths. “This is a clear demonstration of the Honourable Minister’s sincerity and commitment to youth empowerment. We are optimistic that this training will not only transform participants but also create ripple effects across communities as they return to establish businesses and provide opportunities for others,” he said.
The group also reaffirmed its readiness to partner with government agencies and other stakeholders to scale up opportunities for young Nigerians.
