Zamfara CAN to First lady: Over 3 decades we have never received such gestures.

The Zamfara State Christan Association of Nigeria (CAN) applauded Zamfara first Lady for Christmas gesture.
The state chairperson Women Wing Mrs. Martila Udowella said, Christian community recognized the Humanitarian Service of the first lady and deserves to be rewarded.
“We resolved to award the first lady at our National Conference and we brought the award to you in advance. Martila Udowella said.
The First Lady of Zamfara State, Huriyya Dauda Lawal has distributed welfare packages to women drawn from various groups, organisations, unions and security formations during the 2025 Christmas Welfare Distribution Ceremony held at Government House, Gusau.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady appreciated the remarkable support accorded to Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration, noting that such solidarity strengthens ongoing efforts to improve the wellbeing of citizens. She described women as pillars of peace, stability and development, stating that their role in shaping families and communities remains indispensable.
“The strength of Zamfara lies in the resilience and commitment of its women. They are backbone of our society, and your contributions continue to drive the growth and progress of our state,” she said.

The beneficiaries were drawn from a wide range of groups, including CAN, Yoruba, Igbo, Gidan Zala, non-indigenes, the Army, Immigration, Customs, Police, Civil Defence, DSS, Road Safety, NDLEA, Prison Service, Zarota, Red Cross, teachers, nurses, doctors, market women, youth, NYSC members, scouts, vendors, fire service personnel, media stations, banks, among others.
Hurriya further explained that the gesture was designed to ease the burden of the women during the festive season and ensure that they celebrated the Christmas with comfort and dignity.
The First Lady urged beneficiaries to share the items equitably within their respective groups and communities, stressing that the initiative promotes compassion, unity, and collective wellbeing.
“I pray that this season brings peace, blessings and prosperity to every household. May we continue to work together to build a harmonious and prosperous Zamfara State,” she added.
The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to championing programmes that uplift women, strengthen families, and enhance community development. She also commended the women leaders, government officials, and organisational representatives present for their dedication and collaboration.
Representatives of some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Martila Udowella of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lolo Ugueze Theresa Obijiaku, wife of the HRH Chief of Igbo Community Gusau and Mrs Esther Ariyo of the Yoruba Women Community, expressed their gratitude to the First Lady for her kindness and generosity.
The event attracted prominent women leaders, government functionaries, and representatives from various associations and agencies.
