Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State on Thursday attended the All Progressives Congress ward congress in Mafa as party members elected new grassroots executives in a process officials described as orderly and peaceful.

Mr. Zulum, accompanied by the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, and other senior party figures, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, which was held simultaneously across the state’s 312 wards. The congress in Mafa was conducted by consensus, a method party leaders said was aimed at promoting unity.

The ward congress committee was chaired by the state’s commissioner for health, Baba Mallam Gana, while Salihu Muktari, the local government electoral officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, monitored proceedings.
Members of the party’s national screening and appeals committees, led by Prophet Jones Erue, were also present.

“I am happy with the smooth conduct of this exercise,” Mr. Zulum told party supporters after the vote. “There was no rancour, no bitterness, and that is the spirit of the APC family.” He commended the party’s national leadership for deploying what he described as a competent oversight team.

Addressing the newly elected ward executives, the governor urged them to see their emergence as a call to service. Grassroots officials, he said, must work to strengthen party structures and maintain unity ahead of future political contests.
