The governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aspirant jostling for the seat of the president in Nigeria has on Thursday visited the Oba of Benin to seek his support for his presidential ambition in the country.

Governor Wike said he had the essential experience to tackle insecurity in Nigeria if given the opportunity. He also noted that working closely with the security agencies would solve the security problems which, according to him, were behind the economic challenges in the country.

In this regard, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Uku Akpolokpolo, and Ewuare II, expressed confidence in Wike’s abilities to preside over the country as president. According to him, the Governor had been doing good works for the people of Rivers State. The Oba reiterated his love for Wike, adding that his achievements in Rivers State would always make him out.

“This journey that you have embarked on, we are comfortable with you. You know already that I have a personal love for you,” the Oba of Benin added.

Governor Wike told the Oba that he is one Nigerian “who cannot fold his arms and watch the country slide without doing anything. I believe that by the grace of God if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gives me the mandate to fly the flag of the party, I think I have the experience to help this country to be better than what it is today giving my experience as a former Local Government chairman, as Minister of State and Supervising Minister of Education and now Governor of Rivers State.”
