Prominent Human and environmental rights activist and Niger Delta advocate, Comrade Ozobo Austin, has condemned what he described as an attempt by Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to induce civil servants with the 13th month salary to vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections.

Ozobo, in a statement, said the payment of the 13th month salary is a statutory right and welfare package for civil servants and should not be used as a political tool to secure votes.

According to him, civil servants deserve their full entitlements without political attachment, adding that linking workers’ welfare to partisan politics undermines the integrity of the civil service.

He argued that any attempt to use salary payments to influence electoral decisions amounts to vote buying and violates democratic principles.

The activist therefore urged civil servants in the state to resist any form of political inducement and remain focused on demanding good governance, accountability and improved welfare.

Ozobo urged Delta civil servants to freely vote for their choices of candidates to come 2027, re-emphasising that the payment of the 13th month salary is a statutory right and welfare package for civil servants and should not be used as a political tool to secure votes.

He further called on Governor Oborevwori to separate governance from politics and ensure that workers’ welfare is not politicized ahead of the 2027 polls.
