2027: Respect Zoning, Allow South to Complete Its Turn — Ogidigba Urges Northern Leaders

The National Chairman of the Amnesty Delegates Forum, Gen. Ogidigba Godstime Ogidigba, has called on political leaders in Northern Nigeria to respect the existing zoning arrangement and support the emergence of a Southern candidate in the 2027 presidential election.

Ogidigba made the call in a statement made available to newsmen on September 21, 2026, urging northern presidential aspirants to reconsider their ambitions in the interest of what he described as peace, equity, fairness and stability in the country.

According to him, the presidency should remain in the Southern part of Nigeria for the next electoral cycle, which he said would allow the South to complete its turn before power returns to the North in 2031. He appealed to northern leaders to maintain the zoning arrangement and support a Southerner for the presidency in 2027.

Ogidigba said adherence to the arrangement would help reduce political tension and prevent conflicts of interest ahead of the 2031 general election. He also stressed the importance of national unity at a time when the country is confronting insecurity, banditry and terrorism.

The Amnesty Delegates Forum chairman called for greater cooperation among Nigeria’s political and regional leaders, stressing that unity remains important to the country’s ability to confront its security challenges and sustain national stability.

He concluded with an appeal for Nigerians to prioritise peace, equity and fairness, noting that collective unity is essential to the nation’s progress.
