Suspected seapirates have abducted 8 passengers from a commercial speedboat along the Brass route on Monday.

It was learnt that the pirates ambushed the commercial speedboat and whisked away eight of the passengers out of the 15 on board.

A source said the kidnapped passengers were among 15 others travelling from Brass to Yenagoa when the speedboat was attacked by the sea pirates on Monday.

The source also hinted that about 7 of the passengers on board escaped the attack.

However, the unit chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in the Brass Local Government Area, Daniel Biodoumoye, confirmed the incident.

According to him, the passengers were returning to Yenagoa from a funeral ceremony at Egweama, in the Brass LGA, when the armed men attacked the boat.

The maritime chairman further added that the pirates double-crossed the 200-horsepower engine boat near a rice farm and fled with eight of the 15 passengers.

The Bayelsa State Police Command’s PPRO, SP Asinim Butswat, said seven passengers were kidnapped by the pirates, maintaining that investigation had started.
