Patients Groan in Govt. Hospitals As Doctors Strike Enters Day 2

By Sola Omoniyi, Lagos
The National Association of Residence Doctors have embarked on a 5-day warning strike over the inability of the government to meet their demands.
The present situation was worse in government hospitals as patients were abandoned by striking doctors.
Following the ongoing warning strike by government doctors, private hospitals are presently making brisk business at a high cost to patients.
According to the report, families and friends of patients were seen taking their loved ones to private hospitals in their various states.
Some of the issues leading to the warning strike according to resident doctors include manpower shortage in the health sector, poor infrastructures, non-payment of medical residency training funds, non-increments of the consolidated Medical Salary Structure as well as the failure of state governments across the country to pay salary arrears of doctors
It was reported that Dr Yakabu Adeleke Ademola, the chairman of the National Association of Residence Doctors was sighted going around hospitals to ensure doctors stayed away from the facilities.
