Just in: Gunmen kidnap DPO, demand ransom

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Ibrahim Aliyu lshaq has been abducted by suspected gunmen on Friday.

The incident occurred when the DPO was driving with a private car along Etsako community, the administrative headquarters of the LGA on Friday evening.

The victim was accosted around Ise river along the old Auchi-Ekperi-Agenebode road.

The gunmen shoot intermittently when sighting him, forcing him to stop, before he was whisked into the forest.

According to a report, the abductors are demanding for the sum of N50 million as ransom.

However, the State Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu, has directed operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit, the Tactical and Strike Teams of the Command to move to the area to rescue the DPO unhurt.
