The Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum (NDENYLF), in collaboration with the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), have described the calls for the removal of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr Samiel Ogbuku from office as mere distractions while staging a solidarity walk in Warri, Delta State on Thursday.

The Youths under the banner of NDENYLF and IYC have expressed their confidence in Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the management of the commission and alleged development strides.

The youths from across the Niger Delta further described Ogbuku as a prudent leader that deserved the support of all ethnic nationalities in the region.

The solidarity walk was attended by all zonal and chapter chairmen of the Ijaw Youth Council worldwide, as well as the 6th Mobile Parliament led by Allen Tomoni and other key stakeholders from the region.

The youths matched through Warri and its environs, warning troublemakers under anonymous groups to refrain from distracting the NDDC MD from his duties.

Addressing journalists at the NDDC office in Warri, Comrade Nicholas Igarama, Chairman of the IYC Western Zone, speaking on behalf of the youth leaders, urged the region to support Ogbuku’s development-driven policies.

He emphasised that Ogbuku has demonstrated a commitment to the development of the Niger Delta in a few times in office and should be given the necessary support to complete his tenure.

“This is a solidarity walk for Dr. Samuel Ogbuku in response to the relentless criticism against his leadership. The MD operates within a constitution-backed agency with a mandatory four-year term”-Igarama asserted.

“In his few times in office, we can all attest to his remarkable achievements. The Ogbuku’s development stride is evident even to the blind. He has made a significant impact on Niger Deltans across various sectors” -IYC noted.

“The minor improvements on the East-West Road today are an extension of the NDDC’s oversight function. Through this walk, we call on all Niger Deltans to rally around Ogbuku and provide him with the necessary support for our collective advancement,” Igarama stated.
