WAFCON: Super Falcons Receive OON honours, $100,000, House Gifts

The president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bestowed the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on members of the Nigerian women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, to acknowledge their remarkable results and impressive achievement at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The president also announced a prestigious award for the players and technical crew in a grand event that took place in the presidential villa in Abuja, on Monday. A flagship housing project under the current administration, a prize of $100,000 and a three bedroom apartment at the renewed Hope Estate, would be given to each super Falcons player.
In addition to that, members of the coaching and technical crew were also presented with $50,000 each in recognition of steering the team to victory.
In a speech given by the president, he applauded the Super Falcons for their resilience, discipline, and patriotic spirit, stating that their performance had brought pride to the nation and also brought unity amongst Nigerians.
The action of the president was seen as an exertion to encourage sports development in Nigeria and commemorate the accomplishments of patriots.
The Super Falcons recently set a milestone by emerging victorious against South Africa, in the recent final match.
