Nigeria’s Industrial Growth Threatened as Manufacturing, Agriculture Decline

Nigeria’s path to industrialisation is under serious threat as new data reveals sharp declines in the manufacturing and agricultural sectors.

Manufacturers continue to grapple with high energy costs, forex scarcity, and poor infrastructure, forcing many to scale down or shut operations. The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has warned of more job losses if urgent steps are not taken.

Agriculture, the country’s supposed backbone, is also failing to deliver due to insecurity in food-producing states, climate challenges, and lack of mechanisation. This has pushed food prices higher and weakened output.

Analysts caution that unless the government intervenes with strong policies to revive local production, Nigeria risks deeper dependence on imports and worsening inflation.
