Nigerians in Diaspora Urged to Uphold Good Conduct Abroad

By Diafa Doubra,
Nigerians living abroad have been advised to conduct themselves responsibly and respect the laws of their host countries, following a recent incident in Ghana that sparked diplomatic concerns.
The call came after the arrest of a Nigerian man of Igbo origin who reportedly inscribed the title “Eze Ndigbo of Ghana” on a structure, an act that Ghanaian authorities deemed unlawful. The incident quickly drew public attention, raising debates about cultural representation, legality, and the image of Nigerians abroad.
Community leaders and stakeholders stressed that while Nigerians have a right to celebrate their heritage, such expressions must not conflict with the legal frameworks of their host nations. They added that misconduct by a few individuals often tarnishes the reputation of millions of law-abiding Nigerians contributing positively across the globe.
The advice underscores the importance of preserving Nigeria’s image internationally through discipline, respect for local laws, and responsible cultural representation.
