Rising Insecurity: Reps Summon NSA, Service Chiefs Over Killings

By Diafa Doubra,
The House of Representatives has summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, along with the nation’s service chiefs, to appear before it and explain the rising wave of insecurity across Nigeria.
This follows growing concerns over frequent attacks, banditry, and communal clashes that have claimed dozens of lives in recent weeks, particularly in the North. Lawmakers said the killings have created fear among citizens and questioned the effectiveness of the government’s current security strategies.
The motion to summon the top security officials was adopted during a plenary session, with lawmakers insisting that Nigerians deserve answers and concrete actions. They stressed that the continuous loss of lives and property shows a failure in intelligence gathering and deployment of resources.
The service chiefs and NSA are expected to provide detailed reports on security operations, challenges faced, and steps being taken to restore peace. Lawmakers also called for a review of the country’s security architecture to better address the complex threats facing the nation.
