Abia Link Road Collapse Puts Villagers, Travellers in Danger

Residents of Abia State are raising alarm after the collapse of a major link road, which has left villagers and travellers stranded and at risk.

The road, which connects several rural communities to larger towns, reportedly caved in following days of heavy rainfall. Motorists now struggle to navigate the damaged section, while commercial vehicles and traders have been forced to take long detours, leading to increased transport costs.

Community leaders say the collapse has cut off access to schools, markets, and healthcare centres, worsening the hardship of locals. They called on the state government to act quickly to repair the road and prevent further accidents.

Meanwhile, travellers have appealed to federal and state authorities to prioritise road infrastructure in rural areas, stressing that neglect has left many communities isolated and vulnerable.
