Delta CP Visits Ovie of Ughelli, Tasks Officers on Intelligence-Led Policing, Professionalism
By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, has called for stronger police-community collaboration to tackle cultism, drug abuse, sexual offences and other security challenges in Ughelli and its environs.
Erale made the call during his familiarisation tour of the Ughelli Area Command, which included a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, and engagements with community stakeholders and police personnel.
At the royal palace, the Commissioner paid homage to the monarch and sought his prayers, counsel and continued support in the fight against crime. He expressed concern over the prevalence of cultism, drug abuse and sexual offences, stressing that credible and timely information from residents was essential to effective policing.
The Ovie of Ughelli welcomed the Commissioner and pledged the traditional institution’s continued cooperation with the Police, particularly during the ember months and the forthcoming electioneering period. Traditional rulers from neighbouring communities in Delta State also attended the royal engagement.
At a subsequent stakeholders’ meeting, CP Erale described security as a collective responsibility and urged community leaders and residents to support security agencies with reliable intelligence.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating criminal activities and strengthening police-community relations across the state.
Addressing officers and men of the Ughelli Area Command, the Commissioner charged them to remain vigilant, intensify intelligence-led operations and uphold professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities.
He specifically warned against extortion, unlawful arrests and violations of citizens’ human rights, declaring that the Command would not tolerate misconduct by its personnel.
The visit forms part of the Commissioner’s ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships with traditional institutions, community stakeholders and police formations towards improving security and protecting lives and property across Delta State.
