Onnochie Warns Niger Delta Will Punish Tinubu in 2027 Over Rivers Crisis

By Diafa Doubra,
Former presidential aide, Lauretta Onnochie, has warned that the people of the Niger Delta will not forget what she described as the “unlawfulness” surrounding the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, stressing that it will shape the region’s voting decisions in the 2027 general elections.
Onnochie, in a statement, accused the Tinubu administration of undermining democratic processes by suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and installing a sole administrator to run the state for six months. She argued that such political maneuvers have only deepened distrust among Niger Deltans.
“The Niger Delta people are watching closely, and they will punish this government at the polls in 2027,” she declared.
Her comments come just days after President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule and ordered Fubara’s reinstatement as governor. Political observers say the episode has stirred debate about federal overreach, constitutional loopholes, and the growing importance of the Niger Delta in Nigeria’s political landscape.
