Obasanjo Denies Third Term Ambition, Challenges Nigerians to Prove Otherwise

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has once again dismissed claims that he sought a third term in office during his administration, describing the allegation as false and baseless.

Speaking at a public event, Obasanjo insisted that he never pursued a constitutional amendment to extend his stay in power beyond 2007. According to him, the narrative was a political tool created by his opponents to discredit his government.

The elder statesman challenged anyone with proof of the alleged third-term agenda to come forward, saying no Nigerian can substantiate such claims. He emphasized that he respected democratic principles and willingly handed over power at the end of his second term.

Obasanjo’s comments have rekindled debate among Nigerians, as the “third term” controversy has remained one of the most discussed aspects of his presidency nearly two decades after leaving office.
