Lagos Reaffirms Commitment to Maternal and Child Health

By Diafa Doubra,
The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the health of mothers and children, stressing that their well-being remains a top priority in the state’s healthcare agenda.
Speaking during a public health programme, officials highlighted several interventions already in place, including free antenatal care, improved access to primary healthcare centres, and awareness campaigns on maternal health. The government explained that these efforts are aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, which remain a concern in parts of Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Health noted that Lagos is also investing in modern medical facilities, training of healthcare workers, and community-based initiatives to ensure that expectant mothers receive proper care before, during, and after childbirth.
Civil society groups and healthcare advocates have welcomed the renewed commitment, urging the government to sustain funding and ensure that policies translate into practical results for families across the state.
