THE Kano State Police Command has intercepted a consignment of suspected intoxicants valued at more than N82 million, in a major operation aimed at curbing drug trafficking in the state.

The operation, carried out on 20 September 2025, followed credible intelligence received around 1:00 p.m. about a suspicious vehicle loaded with cartons believed to contain illicit substances at Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, Kano. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team, under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, tracked the vehicle to its location and cordoned off the premises.

A 19-year-old suspect, identified as Usman Umar, a resident of the house where the vehicle was parked, was arrested during the operation.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of the following:

603 packets of suspected Tramadol tablets containing 60,300 pieces, valued at N60.3 million;

299 packets of suspected Pregabalin capsules containing 44,850 pieces, valued at N22.4 million.

The total estimated value of the seized substances stands at N82.7 million.

According to the police, the suspect is currently assisting investigators to unravel the network behind the illegal trade, with further arrests expected.

Commissioner Bakori commended the vigilance of residents whose timely information led to the successful interception. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-led and community-driven policing to combat drug abuse and trafficking across Kano State.

He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information, assuring them of swift response and confidentiality.

The interception aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for all commands to strengthen proactive policing strategies to tackle crime and maintain public safety.
