Presidency Slams Sowore Over Planned ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu’ Protest

By Diafa Doubra,
The Presidency has condemned Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, over his planned nationwide protest demanding the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
According to a statement issued by a senior presidential aide, the government described the planned demonstration as a “deliberate attempt to incite unrest and destabilize the country.” The Presidency maintained that while citizens have the right to peaceful protest, no one is above the law, and any attempt to disrupt national peace under the guise of activism would not be tolerated.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate and rights activist, had recently called for massive street actions, accusing the Federal Government of persecuting Kanu and suppressing dissenting voices. However, the Presidency countered that Kanu’s case remains a judicial matter, urging Nigerians to allow the legal process to run its course.
Security agencies have been placed on alert ahead of the proposed protest, with authorities warning organizers against any breach of public order.
