2027: Chief Mamamu Declares Intention to Contest Delta South Senatorial Seat, Vows to Unseat Joel-Onowakpo

Prominent youth activist and President of the Niger Delta Youths Council (NDYC), Comrade Bene Youkore Mamamu, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Delta South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday and circulated to journalists in Warri.
Mamamu said his decision followed wide consultations with key stakeholders across the Senatorial district. Expressing strong confidence in his chances, he vowed to unseat the incumbent Senator, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, if he seeks re-election. “I am committed to creating jobs, fostering economic growth, and ensuring that the voices of our youths are heard in the Senate,” he stated.
The NDYC president criticized the current representation, describing it as unproductive. According to him, “Joel-Onowakpo’s tenure has brought no tangible development to Delta South apart from sponsoring bills that have not translated into meaningful projects.” He emphasized that the time has come for “productive representation” that delivers visible impact.
Mamamu outlined his plans to prioritize federal projects that will improve infrastructure, healthcare, and education. He also promised to establish vocational training centres, promote entrepreneurship, and champion environmental sustainability in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. “My vision is for sustainable development that benefits all local government areas and ethnic groups in Delta South,” he added.
