Hunter Mistakenly Shoots Woman Dead After Confusing Her for Monkey in Cross River

Tragedy struck in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State when a hunter allegedly shot and killed a woman he mistook for a monkey while hunting in a nearby forest.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred on Monday in the Basam Osokom community. The hunter, identified as Otu Goodness Kanang, reportedly fired at what he believed to be a monkey perched on a tree.
Moments after pulling the trigger, Kanang allegedly heard a human cry and upon checking, discovered that he had mistakenly shot a woman later identified as Victoria, whose other names were yet to be confirmed at the time of reporting.
The hunter was subsequently arrested after detectives visited the scene. With the assistance of community youths, the body of the deceased was recovered and taken to the residence of a local chief in Basam for further action.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that an investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing. They added that normalcy has since been restored in the area.
